Hanes began when two separate relatives started knitting and hosiery companies at the beginning of the 1900’s. Wesley Hanes created Shamrock Mills and Pleasant Hanes made the P.H. Hanes Knitting Company. Shamrock Mills was the company that made women’s hosiery and they soon took on the name Hanes Hosiery Mill. It took until the year 1965 before the two companies came together as the Hanes Corporation. They had great success with the merger and in 1975, they launched one of their most famous products of all time, the Hanes Beefy-T. They reached a huge milestone with the Beefy-T in 2001 when they sold their one billionth.
