National Underwear Day

Your mother always told you to wear clean underwear in case you got into an accident. And it’s also handy in case you want to celebrate National Underwear Day. Which is tomorrow (Wednesday, August 9th)!

Yes, another sort of “only in New York” kind of happening (or possibly in San Francisco, too), the 4th Annual National Underwear Day kicks off tomorrow in Times Square (and other visible locales throughout New York City). Brought to you by the undie-selling folks at FreshPair.com (surprise—there’s a sales angle), the event will see scores of nice looking lads and lasses taking to the streets all day (with the peak time from 11am to 1pm) passing out around 4,000 free pairs of undies. And they’ll have changing stations, so you can change right there on the street! Woo-hoo!

As their press release reads: “National Underwear Day combines elements of political protest, ‘60s Happenings, and outdoor fashion shows. Besides showcasing the latest styles of underwear in a spontaneous, free-spirited way, National Underwear Day’s goal is to establish the day as an officially recognized holiday.” As the voting page online says: “The second amendment gives us the right to bear arms. For one day out of the year, we should also have the right to bare stomachs and legs.”

The idea is to also spread the buzz about what just may be the hot recent trends (low-rise briefs and sports briefs for men; T-shirt bras and graphic detail bras for the gals) in undies, as well as celebrating the classics (briefs and boxer briefs for him; strapless bras for her).

You can also go online and vote for your favorite FreshPair underwear model. Right now, Jen is leading the votes for the women; Yusuf is topping the charts for the guys.

Sure, there’s way more important stuff going on in the world. But sometimes you need a nice low-rise thong or a “no-show brief” to boost your, er… spirits!
