Strip down! (For National Underwear Day)
You know you’re in trouble when you’re at an event and you’re soo taken away by the models’ hot looks that you forget to take photos. Well, that’s exactly what happened to us on Tuesday, August 5, when we hit the 6th Annual National Underwear Day Fashion Show and Party thrown by Freshpair.com at eSpace in New York City.
Male models with unbelievable bodies (you could bounce a quarter off of any body part) stood on platforms, wearing next to nothing and grinning. Oh yes, you could get your photo taken with those luscious lovelies if you desired. That is, if you desired to get through the crush of admirers to get near them.
Female models who looked like they just stepped out of the boudoir or beach, stood smiling while wearing lacey underthings. They alternately wowed and unnerved the crowd too.
It seemed that everywhere we turned, there was another hot body. It got so overwhelming that at one point Jim and I clutched each other and squealed like little girls.
Pre-show
Of course the event had a VIP section, but the VIPs didn’t seem to care to visit it. Wandering through the hoi polloi were Russell Simmons (who has the nicest hands), gay porn star/director/d-bag Michael Lucas (the third moniker was added by my editor, Jason Salzenstein), Philip Bloch, Jaslene from ANTM, Nole Marin, Richie Rich, Suede and a few other members of Project Runway, Robert Mauro, Rosemay Ponzo and quite a few others. Reporters from The New York Times, Black Book rubbed shoulders with everyone else.
Speaking of Richie Rich, I’m a bit miffed at him. At the cocktail party for the Life Ball recently, we had quite an amusing conversation about Judith Leiber bags, jewelry, the Life Ball and Fashion Week. I walk over to say hello tonight, and he looks at me like I’m a crazed bag lady. Hmmpf!
The party was controlled, gleeful mayhem. Before the official runway show, Lydia Hearst, who spent most of the pre-show time sequestered, came out and spoke about the importance of underwear. Sadly her jokes fell flat, and one of her lines about Young Hollywood needing to rediscover lingerie was cringe worthy; her other pithy remarks weren’t either.
The lights dim...
But the show! Male and female models strutted and sashayed down the runway in the latest underpinnings from by Diesel, 2(x)ist, DKNY, Sean John, Champion, Wacoal, Natori, Le Mystere, Unico, Baskit, Nautica, 3G, Go Softwear, Tommy Hilfiger, Giulio and Report Collection.
There was more smeared guyliner off the runway than on.
The event was scheduled to end at 9:30 pm, but people were having such a great time, they were forced out of the building.
If you’d like to take a gander of the fun, sexy and cool unmentionables that everyone was gawking at, go and visit www.freshpair.com
Then wait for the 7th Annual National Underwear Day for more.
