Every day is literally a holiday
Andy Rathbun
The Enquirer
There is a cause for celebration!
Every day of the year seems to be designated as a special day, celebrating one odd thing or another, from left-handedness to poinsettias.
For instance, the National Confectioner's Association lists 32 separate days in celebration of sweets, everything from Gummi Worm Day (July 15) to English Toffee Day (Jan. 8). The site even has separate days to celebrate fudge (June 16) and nutty fudge (May 12).
Feel free to chase those days with either National Irish Coffee Day (Jan. 25) or Drink Beer Day (Sept. 28). Those are just some of the food-related days listed at The Flying Dutchman (www.tfdutch.com). According to the site, every day of the year has a food or drink that corresponds to it — even leap year's Feb. 29, which is Surf and Turf Day.
Not all of these festivities are bad for your hips, however.
National Punctuation Day (Aug. 22) was founded by Jeff Rubin, an ex-newspaperman, after he became "deeply saddened" by punctuation use — or a lack thereof.
"I really think it matters," said Rubin, noting that Aug. 22 is also National Tooth Fairy Day. "People judge you by how you present yourself, and that includes correspondence, (and) that includes written communication."
And then there's that most scandalous of days, National Underwear Day, which celebrated its third year of existence on Wednesday by sending underwear models to New York's Times Square.
Kate Barnett, a spokesperson for the www.freshpair.com, which founded the celebration, said the day isn't only about underwear glorification.
"It's also appreciation," she said.
